Manuscript Monday - a new beginning

Hey FFFers! I’m trying once again to utilize the schedule I set way back last year for my writing blog. Mondays are for manuscript updates – mine and news about my friends. Wednesdays are dedicated to Willoughby, if there’s any new news. And Fridays, I’m hoping to post fantasy pictures.

So here we are – Monday. I’m excited to let you know that I’ll be working with an amazing mentor, Nancy Rue, for the prequel to Fairyeater! I didn’t used to see the purpose of prequels, but then I was sharing with my friend, Jim, the plot of Fairyeater and he said, “You know what would be cool? If we could see how Riss’aird became the Dark Lord.”

Well, I thought about that for a while and the idea grew on me. It really would be cool to see that. And to get to know Krezma when she was young and mischevious. In Fairyeater, we only know her as old and cantankerous.

Fairyeater is set for release in August. Woot! And my goal is to have a decent draft for the prequel, which I’m calling Fairystone, by the time Realm Makers rolls around in July. I have the timeline and the first 3 chapters written and have started the 4th chapter. It feels like a HUGE job, but with Nancy coming along side me, I’ll be able to get it done. She helped me with Fairyeater, after all.

Writing is not as solitary as people might think – at least, not for me. I’m the rare extroverted writer, so I work best with someone. Sure, most of the actual writing is done alone, but I need the feedback as I go along, so it’s worth it to me to hire Nancy. She’s an amazing mentor! You can read more about her mentorship program here:  http://fromshadowtoshelf.com/

Below, that’s Nancy on the left and me on the right. In the center is middle grade suspense author, Tim Shoemaker. We were all teaching together at the Greater Philly conference 2 years ago. I love this picture!! So thankful God put these friends – and more – in my life! I would have given up without them and my family. They always encourage me to keep going.

Writing friends, who encourages your writing?
